Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®

RCIS has been holding an annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event in Westminster, Carroll County, for the last eleven years and we plan to keep on walking!  This event takes place in April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and challenges all community members to walk a mile in a victim-survivor’s shoes to start a conversation about sexual violence in our community.  As a fundraiser, Walk a Mile helps us continue to offer our free services to those who have been affected by sexual violence.

As a prevention, awareness, and fundraising event, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is most effective when local businesses and community members are willing to join us. Please consider registering to walk, forming a team of friends and family members to fundraise, or encouraging a local businesses to sponsor Walk a Mile!  We are adding new things each year, so make sure to keep an eye out in the Spring!

This year we held our 12th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event – and things looked a little different than usual. For the first time ever, Walk a Mile went virtual! Participants geared up and went for a walk wherever they could safely do so: on a treadmill or in their backyards, neighborhoods, or local parks.  Our team spent the day posting pictures and videos of the walkers to Facebook and Instagram, as well as educational content about bystander intervention and RCIS services.  We had a great time, but can’t wait to see everyone in person for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® 2021!

If you are a local business interested in sponsoring this event, please contact Johanna Veader, Event Coordinator jveader@rapecrisiscc.org or call our office at (410) 857-0900.
